Thomas missed an advance preview of the resurrection

"Although Thomas the Twin was one of the twelve disciples, he wasn't with the others when Jesus appeared to them. So they told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But Thomas said, "First, I must see the nail scars in his hands and touch them with my finger. I must put my hand where the spear went into his side. I won't believe unless I do this!" A week later the disciples were together again. This time, Thomas was with them. Jesus came in while the doors were still locked and stood in the middle of the group. He greeted his disciples and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at my hands! Put your hand into my side. Stop doubting and have faith!" Thomas replied, "You are my Lord and my God!" Jesus said, "Thomas, do you have faith because you have seen me? The people who have faith in me without seeing me are the ones who are really blessed!".. these are written so that you will put your faith in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. If you have faith in him, you will have true life." (John 20:24-31 CEV)

I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness is through law, then Christ died without cause. (Galatians 2:21 MKJV)

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him, who is the Head of all principality and power...Therefore let no one judge you in food or in drink, or in respect of a feast, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths.

For these are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ. (Colossians 2:6-17 MKJV)

A beautifull poem. PDF Print E-mail

Read this poem, by Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889), and thought of you.

As Kingfishers Catch Fire

As king fishers catch fire, dragon flies draw flame;
As tumbled over rim in roundy wells          Stones ring; like each tucked string tells, each hung bell's
Bow swung finds tongue to fling out broad its name; Each mortal thing does one thing and the same:
Deals out that being indoors each one dwells; Selves -- goes itself; myself it speaks and spells, Crying What I do is me: for that I came.

I say more: the just man justices;
Keeps grace: that keeps all his goings graces; Acts in God's eye what in God's eye he is -- Christ. For Christ plays in ten thousand places, Lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not his To the Father through the features of men's faces.

A beautifull poem.

Gerard Manley Hopkins struggled with Christianity all his life. He converted from the Anglican church to the Catholic church, and later to the Jesuit church continually seeking communion with God through 'The Church' and its traditions and religious practices. He suffered from serious bouts of depression as a result! Yet when you read his poetry he seems to know of the nature of Christ and the Father. From his heart comes the understanding, the foundation, of Christ in him.
