Taking his daily walk along the sandy white beach, a man catches sight of a young boy feverishly occupied. From afar it appears as though the boy is caught up in a balletic dance; he stoops, he rises, and then he arches his back and then in one almost violent movement propels his right arm toward the sea
pauses and then repeats the manoeuvre. As the man approaches he sees that the area where the boy is standing is literally carpeted with starfish. Moreover, he sees that the boy was not dancing at all but was carefully one by one throwing the starfish back into the sea. The man stopped and observed this relentless ritual for some time. As he cast his eye along the beach he saw that there were starfish as far as the eye could see. He called to the boy:
There are stranded starfish all the way along the coastline
What possible difference can you make by throwing a few of them back in the sea?
Without looking up the boy stooped again, lovingly picked up another star fish and threw it back into the sea.
I guess you
re right
but you know
I made a difference to that one.

Michelangelo is famously reported as saying that inside every block of stone or marble dwells a beautiful statue; one need only to remove the excess, the outer layer to reveal the work of art within. It is with especial optimism that I flipped open my laptop this evening and settled back to compose this blogg during the short flight home to London from Stockholm. It
s Friday evening as Stockholm disappears beneath me as we reach cruising altitude. It had been an excellent business trip. Fourteen coaching sessions in 3 days was an arduous task but as I reflected on the sessions I felt God
s pleasure. I had completed a tiring but fruitful six weeks of consultancy that had seen me shuttling from one departure lounge to another, the wear and tear periodically eased only by the hospitality afforded the frequent flyer courtesy of the BA executive lounge: Eindhoven, Philadelphia, Stockholm Copenhagen and back to Stockholm. But now my leadership development assignment complete I was headed for home. A month from now and we shall be heading back to Brazil but for now an autumnal London and a wife for all seasons await. Tracy
s excellent blogg entitled
Plato
in which she reflected his quotation that,
One can easily understand a child who is afraid of the dark. The real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." put me in mind of something that Emily Dickinson wrote:
I dwell in possibility
A fairer house than prose
More numerous of windows
Superior
for doors
Of chambers as the Cedars- Impregnable of Eye
And for an Everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky
Of Visitors -the fairest
For Occupation
This
The spreading wide my narrow hands
To gather paradise.

A rainbow sits over the skies of Croydon tonight and as I stand in the street to look at at so others walikng along stop to notice it too. There is a sense of joy at this sight in the street. Today is the day of atonement for Jews( some of the Children in my school are on an official day of observance) What a perfect day for a rainbow Be first to comment this article | Add as favourites (55) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1891 |

Shame is possibly the greatest bondage man can ever live in. It is deceptive and it negates your true identity. It sits on you as passivity stopping you allowing yourself to love yourself. Why?.... because it makes you feel ashamed of your issues. We all have them; our flesh contains them and for many understandable reasons; shame wants to put you in denial..there is the bondage..
