Michelangelo: Discovering the Beauty Hidden Within. PDF Print E-mail
Written by Paul Anderson-Walsh

Michelangelo is famously reported as saying that inside every block of stone or marble dwells a beautiful statue; one need only to remove the excess, the outer layer to reveal the work of art within.

It is with especial optimism that I flipped open my laptop this evening and settled back to compose this blogg during the short flight home to London from Stockholm.  It s Friday evening as Stockholm disappears beneath me as we reach cruising altitude. It had been an excellent business trip. Fourteen coaching sessions in 3 days was an arduous task but as I reflected on the sessions I felt God s pleasure. I had completed a tiring but fruitful six weeks of consultancy that had seen me shuttling from one departure lounge to another, the wear and tear periodically eased only by the hospitality afforded the frequent flyer courtesy of the BA executive lounge: Eindhoven, Philadelphia, Stockholm Copenhagen and back to Stockholm.  But now my leadership development assignment complete I was headed for home.  A month from now and we shall be heading back to Brazil but for now an autumnal London and a wife for all seasons await.

In addition to my home coming induced optimism I am feeling optimistic because I have seen the gentle hand of grace imperceptibly placing its indelible fingerprints on my corporate work.  Just as the bumble bee draws its patterns in ultraviolet light on the flowers that it pollinates so I have seen the hand of God, naked to the visible eye inscribing its message of Divine Love on the heart of the corporate world.  I have begun to see that my leadership development work is more than tent-making it is ministry. I am liberated by that thought and feel launched into new a realm of boundless possibilities because of it.  What you ask is the nature of the possibility simply this I know beyond doubt that - Christ is all and in all.

One can only imagine how seeing all men as Michelangelo viewed his marble slabs would transform our relationships.  Imagine if we came to all our interactions social, commercial, family or church based believing that inside every person [lost or saved] dwells Christ and that all we need do is to remove the excess, the outer layer to reveal the Christ within.
