The Righteousness of God; by Law or by Faith

It was by faith before the law

1. "..For we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. How then was it reckoned? Being in circumcision or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received a sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith while still uncircumcised; so that he might be the father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for righteousness to be imputed to them also; and a father of circumcision to those not of the circumcision only, but also to those walking by the steps of the faith of our father Abraham during uncircumcision. For the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith." (Romans 4:9-13 MKJV)

2. "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts. And by it he, being dead, yet speaks." (Hebrews 11:4 MKJV)

The Law was put to the test many thousands of years ago. Could adherence to the law make anyone righteous?  Isreal was the test case. They gave it their best shot.

1. "Brothers, truly my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is for it to be saved. For I bear record to them that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God." (Romans 10:1-3 MKJV)

2. "But Israel, who followed after a law of righteousness did not arrive at a law of righteousness." (Romans 9:31 MKJV)

This test was rigged to fail from the start, there was only ever going to be, one conclusion.

1. "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh.." (Romans 8:3 MKJV)

2. "..For if a law had been given which could have given life, indeed righteousness would have been out of Law." (Galatians 3:21 MKJV)

Why the Law?

1. "So indeed the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good. Then has that which is good become death to me? Let it not be! But sin, that it might appear to be sin, working death in me by that which is good; in order that sin might become exceedingly sinful by the commandment."

(Romans 7:12-13 MKJV)

2. "So that the Law has become a trainer of us until Christ, that we might be justified by faith." (Galatians 3:24 MKJV)

It is still by faith

1. "And by Him all who believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses." (Acts 13:39 MKJV)

2. "and be found in Him; not having my own righteousness, which is of the Law, but through the faith of Christ, the righteousness of God by faith,"

(Philippians 3:9 MKJV)

The spirit succeeds under grace, where the flesh failed under the law. We now have His spirit in us, to live through us, the life that only He can live, to fulfill the standard, only He can meet.

1. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. But the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh; so that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." (Romans 8:1-4 MKJV)

2. "I say, then, Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh..if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law..the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law. But those belonging to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:16-25 MKJV)

You can't mix failure with success

1. "But now a righteousness of God has been revealed apart from Law, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets;" (Romans 3:21 MKJV)

2. "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the Law." (Romans 3:28 MKJV)

Don't walk backwards

1. "I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness is through law, then Christ died without cause." (Galatians 2:21 MKJV)

2. "you who are justified by Law are deprived of all effect from Christ; you fell from grace." (Galatians 5:4 MKJV)

These test results were released about 2000 years ago and the Final Conclusions as follows

1. "knowing that a man is not justified by works of the Law, but through faith in Jesus Christ; even we believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith in Christ, and not by works of the Law. For all flesh will not be justified by works of law."(Galatians 2:16 MKJV)

2. "But that no one is justified by the Law in the sight of God is clear, for, "The just shall live by faith."" (Galatians 3:11 MKJV)

3. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness for everyone who believes." (Romans 10:4 MKJV)

4. "..whatever things the Law says, it says..so that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may be under judgment before God, because by the works of the Law none of all flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law is the knowledge of sin. But now a righteousness of God has been revealed..even the righteousness of God through the faith of Jesus Christ, toward all and upon all those who believe. For there is no difference," (Romans 3:19-22 MKJV)

"Who has believed our report?.. (Isaiah 53:1 MKJV)
