Whilst I was preparing yesterday to speak at the wedding blessing of one of our young couples Bertie & Maria I got to thinking about how their wedding was such a testimony to God's faithfulness. As I was reflecting I read a wonderful little entry from Mrs. Cowman's delightful book "Streams in the Desert" that just made me sit up and say "Yes that's it exactly." Those of us who were invited to the wedding feast were so thrilled that the couple had chosen to share their joy with us and that it seemed to me is the precise point. Community is about sharing our highs and lows with each other. There are moments when this strange life of ours can be a steep climb, and it does the heart good to have somebody
call back
and cheerily encourage us to keep on keeping on. We are all climbers together, and we must help one another. Jesus forewarned us of difficulties. John his beloved disciple assured us that
In this life we will have trouble
We sometimes fail to see Jesus in the midst of our circumstances as we move often unconsciously forward we discover new summits of divine possibility. The outlook widens with the altitude. If anyone of us has found anything worthwhile he or she ought to
call back.
Call back and tell us that he went with you into the storm
Call back and tell us that he kept us when all else failed
Call back and tell us that he was for you when everything else was against you I shared mrs. Cowman's word of encouragemnt at the wedding feast and i hope it blesses you too; have a read ....
If you have gone a little way ahead of me, call back
Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track; And if, perchance, Faith
s light is dim, because the oil is low, Your call will guide my lagging course as wearily I go,
Oh, friend, call back, and tell me for I cannot see your face; They say it glows with triumph, and your feet bound in the race; But there are mists between us and my spirit eyes are dim, And I cannot see the glory, though I long for word of Him. But if you
ll say he heard you when your prayer was but a cry, And if you
ll say he saw you though the night
s sin-darkened sky
If you have gone a little way ahead, oh, friend, call back
Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track
