1. "For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son; in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins. ..And through Him having made peace through the blood of His cross, it pleased the Father to reconcile all things to Himself through Him, whether the things on earth or the things in Heaven." (Colossians 1:13-20 MKJV)
The usage of the word "reconcile" in the scripture is synonymous with the accounting practice of putting payments and debts in the right column with a view to assessing the overall financial position of an account. God by the blood of Christ wiped out any debt owed Him as a result of sin. There is therefore nothing more to pay. God’s accounts payable(debts owed) account has been closed. Christ paid it all, so God has declared peace towards all mankind.
1. "but the angel said to them, "Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Savior was born---Christ the Lord! And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!"
(Luke 2:10-14 GNB)
2. "God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public--to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured." (Romans 3:25 MSG)
3. "Now that we are set right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any way." (Romans 5:9 MSG)
4. "The Jewish high priest brings the blood of the animals into the Most Holy Place to offer it as a sacrifice for sins; but the bodies of the animals are burned outside the camp. For this reason Jesus also died outside the city, in order to purify the people from sin with his own blood." (Hebrews 13:11-12 GNB)
5. "All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also. Our message is that God was making all human beings his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message, which tells how he makes them his friends. Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ's behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends! Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.
(2 Corinthians 5:18-21 GNB)
6. "God's kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field for years and then accidentally found by a trespasser. The finder is ecstatic--what a find!--and proceeds to sell everything he owns to raise money and buy that field. "Or, God's kingdom is like a jewel merchant on the hunt for excellent pearls. Finding one that is flawless, he immediately sells everything and buys it." (Matthew 13:44-46 MSG)
Pearl of great price
No price too high to pay
You mean so much
To such a mighty God
Who gave up all He had
Paid the ultimate price
To buy you back
His pearl of great price
By Adam's sin mankind became the devil's bond slaves. The blood of Christ was the price paid to redeem us(buy out of that contract of slavery) from the devil, so that we can once again belong to God.
1. "Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey---either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God. But thanks be to God! For though at one time you were slaves to sin, you have obeyed with all your heart the truths found in the teaching you received. You were set free from sin and became the slaves of righteousness. (I use everyday language because of the weakness of your natural selves.) At one time you surrendered yourselves entirely as slaves to impurity and wickedness for wicked purposes. In the same way you must now surrender yourselves entirely as slaves of righteousness for holy purposes. When you were the slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. What did you gain from doing the things that you are now ashamed of ? The result of those things is death! But now you have been set free from sin and are the slaves of God. Your gain is a life fully dedicated to him, and the result is eternal life. For sin pays its wage---death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 6:16-23 GNB)
2. "he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory." (1 Corinthians 6:20 GNB)
3. "So keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock which the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he made his own through the blood of his Son." (Acts 20:28 GNB)
4. "The moment he took the scroll, the Four Animals and Twenty-four Elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb. Each had a harp and each had a bowl, a gold bowl filled with incense, the prayers of God's holy people. And they sang a new song: Worthy! Take the scroll, open its seals. Slain! Paying in blood, you bought men and women, Bought them back from all over the earth, Bought them back for God. Then you made them a Kingdom, Priests for our God, Priest-kings to rule over the earth." (Revelation 5:8-10 MSG)
5. "Therefore let no one glory in men. For all things are yours, whether it is Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's." (1 Corinthians 3:21-23 MKJV)
6. "You know the story of how Adam landed us in the dilemma we're in--first sin, then death, and no one exempt from either sin or death. That sin disturbed relations with God in everything and everyone, but the extent of the disturbance was not clear until God spelled it out in detail to Moses. So death, this huge abyss separating us from God, dominated the landscape from Adam to Moses. Even those who didn't sin precisely as Adam did by disobeying a specific command of God still had to experience this termination of life, this separation from God. But Adam, who got us into this, also points ahead to the One who will get us out of it. Yet the rescuing gift is not exactly parallel to the death-dealing sin. If one man's sin put crowds of people at the dead-end abyss of separation from God, just think what God's gift poured through one man, Jesus Christ, will do! There's no comparison between that death-dealing sin and this generous, life-giving gift. The verdict on that one sin was the death sentence; the verdict on the many sins that followed was this wonderful life sentence." (Romans 5:12-16 MSG)
Roped into a contract I did not sign
Entered into by my father Adam
Obliged me to serve
The god of this world system
And rendered me separated
From the source of true life
A hard taskmaster he was
Had to eat by the sweat of my brow
A dog eat dog world, he runs
Every man for himself
Death and destruction my just rewards
Who will deliver me from this rat race from hell?
Along came the redeemer
Who paid the ultimate price
The life in His blood
To buy me out of the contract of death
Signed me up to the contract of life instead
Selah
In part 6, we will continue exploring the part that the blood of Christ played in God’s plan of salvation.
