The devil came down hard on me, equipped with camaraderie
Not marginally but bombardingly, full assault upon my soul
Thoughts began to form in me, drifting way too carnally
Wondered 'Is there harm in me letting go of self control'

Then crystal clear I heard a voice "That is your flesh, you have a choice
Stand up, be strong and then rejoice, the battle has been won
Its not your struggle, it is mine, I died that I would redefine
the criteria to enter the divine and now it has been done

My blood alone buys holiness, not good works or mans progress
Its given you when you confess that I am Lord of all
The sinful flesh only gives at best a guise of lustre to impress
But behind each human's wilful quest lies a tendency to fall

I died that I would set them free the pious and the unruly
Even whilst they beat and then slew me, my love did not depart
Compassion on the cross I felt, knowing one day all sin would melt
The penalty I had been dealt. Such pain upon my heart

So how can you claim self-defeat when I alone made you complete?
On the right hand I've teken my seat next to the throne of God
It is finished, there's no more to do, you're dead to sin, you've been made new
The devil lies but I am true, don't allow him then to rob

I am one part in the trinity, one portion of Gods plurality
There's much more besides me, there's the Father and Holy Ghost
You're adopted in Gods family, what an immense reality
Also the spirit lives in you, you're his temple and his host

So don't make small what's taken place, the power of God's wondrous grace
His mercy whilst you run your race, you are truly free
There is no more to be done, its finished, through me, God's only son
My strength is yours, you need only come. I live in you and you in me"
